SC State University National Alumni Association (SCSUNAA) recently hosted Open House for their Adopt-A-Center initiative. The Open House was held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. on the campus of SC State.
“I believe that the Adopt-A-Center Open House was a great way for alumni to interact with students and make a huge impact in their lives on this campus through mentoring and forming long lasting relationships,” said Marilyn Scott, food service liaison for SC State.
The Adopt-A-Center Open House idea was borne during the SCSUNAA national meeting held in March 2008 in Raleigh, N.C. and adopted as an Association initiative in July 2008, during the SCSUNAA Convention in Hampton, Va.
All alumni chapters were given the opportunity to Adopt-A-Center by Jan. 2009.
The Adopt-A-Center Open House was a very interactive experience. SC State alumni had the opportunity to meet and to form long lasting relationship with future alumni of the University. SC State alumni also had the opportunity to tour the campus, meet and greet students, and hear presentations from the students of the residential halls adopted.
The Pre-Alumni Council served as tour guides for the Adopt-A-Center Open House.
“I am very excited about the Adopt-A-Center initiative; the alumni are looking forward and anticipating the opportunity to share some of their most memorable experiences with future alumni of the University,” said Valerie Lott, chairperson of the future alumni committee.
