Duty calls, and the SC State University police department has consistently answered for years, providing safety and security on campus 24-7. As a result of this dedication and commitment to the SC State family, interim police chief Michael Bartley says that recognition for his department is long overdue.
This diligence is one reason why Bartley is implementing the Inaugural Awards and Inspection Ceremony, recognizing officers for the outstanding jobs they have done throughout the year. The ceremony will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 in the Felton Laboratory Gym at 8 a.m. and will include an open ranks inspection of all uniform personnel. This entails a line-up of officers in 3 to 4 columns while an inspection of their dress and appearance ensues. “Appearance is a part of the battle,” says Bartley.
There will be several awards given during the ceremony, including: Officer of the Year, Administrative Person of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Residential Security Officer of the Year, Dispatcher of the Year, the Continuous Service Award, Parking Enforcement Officer of the Year, Top Marksmanship Award, Positive Attitude Award, Most Talented Officer, and Overall Employee of the Year.
The Inaugural Awards and Inspection Ceremony will give officers an incentive to achieve even higher standards, says Bartley. “Our strides for excellence will foster great customer service, and ultimately a better law enforcement division,” states Bartley.
The guest speaker for the Inaugural Awards and Inspection Ceremony will be retired SC State police chief Paul White who served the University in that capacity for 10 years.
