SC State University’s Student Success and Retention Program (SSRP) will host its first spring orientation sessions on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 and Thursday, June 3, 2010. SSRP will also host summer orientation sessions beginning on Monday, June 21, 2010 through Thursday, June 24, 2010. These sessions will be held specifically for incoming freshmen and other new students who will enroll in the University for fall 2010. All orientation sessions will begin with check-in at 8:30 a.m. in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium.
The one-day spring and summer orientation sessions are designed to ensure that prospective new students obtain their fall class schedules, secure their residential life and housing assignments, learn more information about essential campus resources, policies and procedures, and pay their tuition and fees, or make financial arrangements to meet all financial obligations in full by Thursday, July 15, 2010.
“We are excited about the number of students who have elected to attend SC State University for fall 2010,” says Terrence Cummings, assistant executive director for Student Success and Retention. The University is leading other institutions with an unprecedented spring orientation. “The Student Success and Retention Program, along with the entire SC State family, commits to the mantra, “‘Promoting Excellence in Student Achievement from Orientation to Graduation.’” SC State University is truly consigned to a caring and nurturing learning environment, and it starts with freshmen and other new students,” Cummings continued.
Both spring and summer orientation sessions will follow the protocol developed by SSRP, where new students attend sessions specially designed for the University’s three degree-granting colleges.
On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, spring orientation for students with majors in the College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (CEHSS) and students who are undecided are invited to attend. On Thursday, June 3, 2010, spring orientation for students with majors in the College of Business and Applied Professional Sciences (CBAPS) and the College of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Technology (CSMET) are scheduled to attend. “Students must register online and must pay the initial enrollment fee of $160 before they can attend,” Cummings indicated.
As an element of each of the one-day orientation sessions, SC State University will also conduct “Parents in College 101.” This parallel activity runs concurrently with student orientation sessions and provides parents with the opportunity to learn more about the University, ultimately helping students get the most out of the SC State University experience.
