“Lift A Bulldog” is a phrase coined recently by Coach Buddy Pough. The phrase indicates that a collective effort from administrators and SC State alumni is essential in preparing the 2010 Bulldog football team for a run at a third consecutive MEAC title and an opportunity for a national championship.
“Lift A Bulldog” includes soliciting funds for enrollment of the University’s scholarship football players into the summer school program. While on campus achieving academic progress during summer session two, players will also be exposed to our vital off-season workout routine under SC State University’s new strength and conditioning coach, Torre Becton.
“In my experience as a strength and conditioning professional, I have found the benefits of a full participation, off-season strength training program to be invaluable to the success of the team, and tremendously advantageous in the development of the individual athlete,” says Becton. “This summer conditioning program will offer an opportunity for the most intense training of the season to be conducted, which will develop team cohesiveness and mental toughness through physical adversity.”
Coach Pough agrees, noting the significance of this new initiative. “Programs such as ‘Lift A Bulldog’ can make a big difference in your team’s accomplishments,” says Pough. “It also demonstrates the level of commitment to off-season workouts which are vital in elevating a program to national prominence.”
