EPI provides funds to support South Carolina State University’s Nuclear Engineering Program (NEP). The program started in the 2001-2002 academic year. NEP is in the College of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering& Technology (CSMET). Administratively, NEP resides in the Department of Civil & Mechanical Engineering Technology and Nuclear Engineering. Funds are provided for the development of the radio chemistry program; faculty, health physics; and for equipment and supplies.
- NEP has a state-of-the-art Radiation Measurement Laboratory- The Applied Radiation Sciences Laboratory (ARSL)
- Made up of about 10 work-stations with Geiger Counters, NaI&Ge-Li detectors
- Laboratory is used mainly for Gamma Spectroscopy and Nuclide Identification
