Assessment is most effective when it enhances learning, provides information to refine teaching strategies and improves course activities. Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) are tools that tap into student knowledge and move them deeper into their understanding of course material. Based in research about learning, many of these simple techniques go even further, supporting meta-cognition (thinking about thinking and about how they learn) and building students' abilities as effective and reflective learners. This workshop introduces a series of CATs that students are simple, easy to integrate and work to simultaneously teach, assess and promote learning.
