Over the years, educators at all levels of education have been using technology in their classes to augment teaching and learning. However, educators have given very little attention to the use of technology, based on brain-based research findings. Also, in recent years, there has been a surge in cognitive neuroscience, which is concerned with an understanding of the mental processes that take place in the brain during learning and particularly when students are using the technology to which they are emotionally attached. Given our knowledge of the new science of teaching and learning, educators need to design instruction where pedagogy drive the teaching and learning process instead of the technology driving the teaching process – in other words, using technology for the sake of technology. This workshop will focus on how to align technology with cognitive neuroscience learning theories to create deep and lasting learning.
1. To understand how cognitive neuroscience learning theories can enhance student learning outcomes, when aligned with the integration of various technologies such as the cell phone, clickers, www.polleverywhere.com, etc.
2. To understand how technology can change the attitudes and behaviors of college students when using selected technologies
3. To determine how selected technologies may be used to create deep and more lasting learning in subject matter content
4. To understand and apply factors that should be considered in using technology to augment teaching and learning
