Course Description

For the millennial students, the traditional approaches of teaching and learning may be outdated. Although the role and responsibility of the college professor remains the same, the classroom environment, the students and the tools needed to augment teaching and learning have drastically changed. The question arises as to how to design instruction to facilitate the motivation of millennial students to learn, using some of the technologies that they bring to classroom. For example, Findlay (2010) showed that infusing cell phones into college courses proved successful in motivating and increasing college students’ academic performance. This workshop is designed to assist participants to integrate mobile technologies in their classes to enhance motivation and create deep and lasting learning. Objectives: 1. To understand millennial students, their habits, attitudes and dispositions and to design instruction to facilitate teaching and learning for higher academic performance 2. To develop teaching strategies using millennial students’ mobile phones as an instructional tool 3. To understand and apply strategies that can be used to integrate mobile technologies in undergraduate courses in order to increase students' motivational level and academic performance
