SC State to Host Alumnus and Executive Speaker Dominick Shaw

SC State University will host executive speaker Dominick Shaw,’01, an information technology project manager at Lockheed Martin Global Supply Chain Management in Orlando, Fla.,
on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at noon in the Belcher Hall fourth floor auditorium.

Shaw will speak on the topic: “The Business of Procurement and Acquisitions.”

As information technology project manager at Lockheed Martin, a global security company principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services, Shaw develops strategies and manages the corporate level information technology supply chain, corporate contracts and projects in excess of $250 million annually with a focus on strategic supply chain entities such as IBM, Dell and Xerox.

Shaw also manages enterprise-wide teams that require a working knowledge of intellectual property rights, integration of return on investment capital (ROIC) strategies, supply chain management and strategic planning. In this role, he also serves as the corporate representative for the Desktop Council (DTC) which establishes enterprise desktop information technology configurations and leverages economies of scale for enterprise procurement.

An Orlando, Fla. native, Shaw received a full scholarship to further his education and to play football for SC State. A four-year scholar, Shaw graduated with honors in 2001, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.

Upon graduation, after interning with Lockheed Martin for four summers, Shaw began his career at the company as a purchasing representative. While there, he also earned a Master’s of Business Administration degree in business, acquisitions management and negotiations from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.

Shaw continued to expand his roles and leadership at Lockheed Martin, first by serving as subcontracts manager for the Joint Missile Program. Among his responsibilities were developing subcontract specifications, work statements, and terms and conditions for the procurement of specialized materials, equipment and services. Shaw also prepared bid packages, conducting bidders’ conferences, analyzing and evaluating proposals, negotiating subcontract provisions, selecting subcontractors, writing awards, and administrating resulting subcontracts.

Additionally, Shaw served as purchasing representative for direct and indirect commodities and as procurement team coordinator in Orlando, Fla. and Dallas, TX. In this position, he was responsible for managing 14 pro-action teams, consisting of an average of 28 people each, with the responsibility to facilitate process improvements, planning, forecasting, budgeting, training and reporting.

Shaw is actively involved in his community and has received numerous awards and recognitions. He is founder and chairman of Worship Under the Stars, a non-profit organization which brings together inspirational musical artists and entertainment during a live concert event. This is in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. He also serves as worship leader at Faith and Power Worship Center in Apopka, Fla.

Shaw is a member of the Lockheed Martin Junior Achievement Committee and the Orange County Prison Ministry. In 2005, he was the recipient of the Supply Chain Diversity Excellence Award at Lockheed Martin.

Shaw is married to Diana Shaw. They are the parents of two daughters, Victoria Grace and Gabriela Faith.
