SC State's Office of Admissions to Host 2010 Youth and ROTC Day, Featuring Young Dro

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Want to know how you can become a future Bulldog at SC State?  Want to know about some of the unique programs of study and curriculum that the University offers?  Want to know how you can be a part of our traditional legacy of excellence?  Join the Office of Admissions as they host the 2010 Youth and ROTC Day. It is important that youth understand the importance of higher education in today’s society.

The 2010 Youth and ROTC Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, located on the SC State campus. This year’s theme is “Preparing the Next Generation of Scholars: One Student at a Time!” This theme sets the stage for an outstanding opportunity to showcase the University academic offerings, the ROTC Program and a glimpse of student life. “Youth and ROTC Day is a special day designed to encourage elementary, middle and high school students to visit our campus and experience all that the University has to offer while enjoying a fantastic football game,” said Antonio Boyle, assistant vice president for Enrollment Management.

The 2010 Youth and ROTC participants will have the opportunity to engage in a pre-game pep rally and get a glimpse of our very own MEAC champion cheerleaders and meet the “baddest band in the land,” the Marching 101.  During the afternoon, the SC State University Bulldogs will also take on the Norfolk State University Spartans at 2 p.m. Both events will take place at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

During 2010 Youth and ROTC Day, rapper Young Dro will also perform. Young Dro is an Atlanta native and T.I.’s protégé, popular for hit songs such as “Shoulda Lean,” “Rubberband Banks” and “Take Off.” With upbeat tempos and a distinctive sound and style, Young Dro is known as one of the South’s best kept secrets.

Registration for Youth and ROTC Day begins at 8 a.m. for participants between the ages of three and 10. Registration will take place at the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium practice field. For participants between the ages of 11 and 17, registration will take place at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. ROTC registration will be at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium, located on the campus of SC State.

Youth and ROTC Day activities will begin at 9 a.m. in various locations on the campus.  Participants ages three to 10 will engage in recreational activities during the Bulldog Challenge. The Office of Student Life and Leadership and Campus Activities Board will also present activities for participants ages 11 through 17 at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.  ROTC activities will be in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium.
