College of Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences

Department of Agriculture

Although the Department of Agriculture is one of South Carolina State University’s newest academic units, the department’s purpose speaks to the institution’s original 1896 land-grant mission – educating future agriculture professionals.

For decades as the institution grew into a state college, agriculture remained an important part of its mission, particularly through 1890 Research & Extension, the university’s outreach arm.

SC State recently bolstered its focus on agriculture by establishing the College of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, bringing its ag-relted programs under one roof. That brought the university’s agribusiness degree program from the College of Business and Information Systems into the new Department of Agriculture.
