From literacy to leadership: Columbia elementary school principal finds academic home at SC State

Claudia Brooks-McCallum was among 13 who received Doctor of Educational Leadership degrees on Thursday. Claudia Brooks-McCallum said she found a welcoming and fruitful learning environment when she enrolled in South Carolina State University’s Doctor of Educational Leadership program. She was one of 13 educators who the university awarded Doctor of Educational Leadership degrees during the Fall 2025 Commencement on Dec. 11.

Surgeon to SC State grads: ‘See what is possible’

University graduates more than 200 at Fall 2025 commencement exercises. A surgeon and South Carolina State University alumnus encouraged more than 200 graduates to put in the work needed to fulfill their goals and dreams Thursday during fall commencement exercises. Dr. Kris Harley, a 1995 SC State graduate, delivered the keynote address at the university’s commencement ceremony at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
