Background
Dr. Anthony Dontoh is a transportation engineering researcher and educator with experience
spanning civil infrastructure development, transportation consulting, academic research,
and engineering education. Before joining South Carolina State University, he held
engineering positions in Ghana, contributing to major railway, roadway, and structural
infrastructure projects, and worked with Arcadis U.S. on transportation planning,
traffic operations, and corridor improvement studies. He also held teaching and research
appointments at the University of Memphis and Tennessee Technological University,
where he contributed to federally sponsored transportation research and mentored undergraduate
and graduate students.
Dr. Dontoh has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed research published in Transportation Research Record, Road Materials and Pavement Design, and proceedings of the IEEE/CVF International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV)
Workshops, IEEE International Conference on Future Machine Learning and Data Science,
and ASCE International Conference on Transportation and Development. His research
contributions also include reports for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program
(NCHRP), and he has presented at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting.
His scholarly achievements have earned several recognitions, including First Place
in the Technical Research Exhibition Showcase at the 2025 National Society of Black
Engineers Annual Convention, Honorable Mention for the 2025 TRB Women of Rail paper,
and selection as a 2026 Lifesavers Traffic Safety Scholar. He was also recognized
among the University of Memphis's Top 10 Under 35 Graduate Students in 2026. At SCSU,
