A third-generation faculty member of South Carolina State University, Dr. Costonzo Bryant-Martin has committed his career to advancing education through teaching, leadership, and service. As Assistant Professor of Education and Director of the Call Me MiSTER program, he prepares the next generation of educators while championing the recruitment and development of African American male teachers across South Carolina and beyond. Under his leadership, the program has achieved measurable success, including a 150% increase in Praxis I pass rates among participants.
Prior to joining the SC State faculty, Dr. Bryant-Martin served as a band director and music educator, where he grew programs, achieved top performance ratings, and mentored students into county, regional, and state honors. His teaching excellence has been recognized with awards such as Teacher of the Year and SC State’s Newcomer Faculty Member of the Year and Hardest Working Faculty Member honors.
In addition to teaching and program leadership, Dr. Bryant-Martin is an active researcher, author, and presenter whose work explores student engagement, online learning, and strategies for improving teacher preparation. He has also secured significant grant funding to expand educational initiatives, including more than $200,000 in support for Call Me MiSTER and multi-million-dollar collaborations focused on educator growth and innovation..
A sought-after speaker, he has delivered keynote addresses, professional training, and national conference presentations on topics ranging from culturally responsive teaching to educational leadership and mentorship. His service extends to numerous professional committees and community outreach through mentorship, master classes, and church performances.
