ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Steel girders now rise above the campus as construction continues on South Carolina State University’s new academic building, a $54.7 million project that will replace aging Turner Hall and expand space for teaching, research and student collaboration.

During a recent milestone ceremony, members of the Board of Trustees and university leaders signed a steel beam before it was hoisted into place atop the emerging structure. The campus community and supporters can follow the project’s progress through a live construction webcam.
