SC State counseling initiatives awarded $4.5M in federal support

South Carolina State University has received several new federal grants that will help more graduate students train for careers in counseling and rehabilitation. The funding supports programs that prepare counselors to work with children and teens facing trauma and disability, as well as programs that train professionals to support individuals with disabilities as they pursue education, independence and employment. Together, these grants will provide full scholarships, stipends and hands-on training partnerships — opening doors for students while strengthening services in schools and communities across South Carolina.

SC State cuts ribbon on virtual reality transportation training lab

South Carolina State University is poised to train the next generation of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) professionals with the help of nearly $2 million in federal funding. University officials cut the ribbon on its SMART (Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation) Virtual Reality Lab following a ceremony on Wednesday morning at the Engineering and Computer Science Complex on campus.
