Quarter Century Club member Pinkey Carter presents Alayna Denise Lemon with a certificate
recognizing her scholarship.
Manning native hopes to return to her hometown to teach and inspire future generations
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State University student Alayna Denise Lemon of Manning was named
a recipient of the $2,500 Quarter Century Club Scholarship last spring, supporting
her pursuit of a career in elementary education.
The Quarter Century Club is composed of current and former SC State employees who
have served the university for 25 years or more.
Lemon, a sophomore elementary education major and daughter of SC State alumnus Kevin
Lemon and Tiffany Lemon, hopes to make a difference in the lives of young students
by providing the same encouragement and support she received from her own teachers.
Her passion for education stems from a genuine love of helping children learn and
grow. She credits her teachers with inspiring her and believing in her potential,
even when she had not fully recognized it herself.
A commitment to her hometown
Lemon plans to return to Manning after completing her education and teach at the elementary
school she once attended.
She hopes to establish a classroom where students feel safe, supported and encouraged
to reach their full potential. Her vision emphasizes making learning enjoyable, building
meaningful relationships and ensuring that every child understands their value.
Beyond earning her undergraduate degree, Lemon intends to pursue a master's degree
and obtain a real estate license. She views both goals as opportunities to serve others
while building a future that benefits her community.
Faith and service guide her ambitions
Lemon identifies her faith as a foundation for her personal and professional goals,
emphasizing integrity, compassion and service to others.
She draws inspiration from Colossians 3:23, which encourages dedication and wholehearted
effort in every undertaking. The scripture reinforces her commitment to approaching
her education and future career with purpose and excellence.
Receiving the $2,500 Quarter Century Club Scholarship represents an important milestone
in Lemon's academic journey. She considers the recognition both an honor and a source
of encouragement as she works toward becoming an educator.
The scholarship strengthens her determination to achieve her goals and make a meaningful
difference in the lives of others.
